Remember The High-School Football Captain Who Came Out On A Poster?

The folks at FCKH8.com reminded us today about Corey Johnson, who came out when he was just a 17-year-old high-school football player at Masconomet High in Massachusetts. The year was 1999, and Corey decided to come out to his classmates in one fell swoop by posting a flyer on his locker:

"I'm coming out as an openly gay student. I hope this won't change anything. I didn't come on to you last year in the locker room, and I won't this year.  I didn't touch you last year in the locker room, and I won't this year.

Besides, who says you guys are cute enough anyway?"

All the Jason Collins haters should take note, huh?

Since high school, Johnson, now 31, has become a blogger, LGBT activist and real-estate developer, and is now running for New York City Council.

He certainly knows how to take a stand.
