Rep. Aaron Schock's New Office Decor Inspired By "Downton Abbey," Nancy Reagan—But He's Still Not Gay

The Washington Post's Ben Terris reports:

Bright red walls. A gold-colored wall sconce with black candles. A Federal-style bull’s-eye mirror with an eagle perched on top. And this is just the Illinois Republican’s outer office.

“It’s actually based off of the red room in ‘Downton Abbey,’ ” said the woman behind the front desk, comparing it to the luxurious set piece at the heart of the British period drama.

Terris managed to finagle an invite to peek at the rest of Schock's offices, detailing another room with  a "drippy" crystal chandelier, a bust of Abraham Lincoln, a preponderance of pheasant feathers and a table propped up by two eagles.

Fwiw, I thought the office looked rad. http://t.co/dhDUoBMnNF pic.twitter.com/XKnK5yNori

“I guess because he’s fresh-minded and forward-thinking, he’s not hung up on doing things the same way as everyone else,” said Annie Brahler, who designed the space. “It’s gotten to where he’s comfortable with everything I do.”

Schock, 33, has dodged rumors about his sexuality for years: Some were sparked simply by his er, festive wardrobe, others came from the fact that he was spotted outside a Ybor City bathhouse when the GOP had its convention in Tampa.

His new decor won't exactly tamp down the gossip. Especially when you realize it's really more reminiscent of Nancy Reagan's White House.
