Report: Gay Men Over 65 Have The Best Sex Lives

Apparently it gets better in the bedroom, too.

Gay men fretting over getting older can take heart: A survey of 15,360 British gay and bisexual men showed that 70% of men ages 65 to 70 were happy with their sex lives, far more than any other age group.

Sigma Research partnered with the Terrence Higgins Trust on the study, which also revealed a full 77% of men who have sex with men have been tested for HIV, 50% within the past year. That represents a major spike in the past half-decade.

The advent of life-saving drugs may be encouraging more people to face the prospect of being positive head-on.

"Reducing HIV or any other sex infections isn’t a success if you make people miserable in the process," said report author Dr Ford Hickson. “That’s why sexual health organizations are starting to talk about “the best sex with the least harm.”

The report also claimed that while "chemsex"—group sexual activities while on recreational drugs is not really a nationwide phenomenon in the UK, though there are concentrations of it in certain circles.

"Although chemsex remains a reality for a relatively small proportion of gay and bisexual men, the potential for harm from it is very high," said Hickson.
