Rhode Island has officially legalized gay marriage today, with Governor Lincoln Chafee signing a bill allowing same-sex marriages in the state moments ago.
The House voted 56 to 15 in favor of marriage equality earlier today to pass the bill on to Governor Chafee.
The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations (Smallest state with the longest name. TRIVIA!) is now the 10th state in the US to legalize same-sex marriage and, with this development, gay marriage is now legal in all of New England.
Same-sex marriage bills are also expected to be voted on in Delaware, Illinois and Minnesota later this year.
