Richie Incognito Suspended From Miami Dolphins For Racist, Homophobic Taunts

Richie Incognito was suspended from the Miami Dolphins on Sunday as a result of what’s being called the “extreme hazing” of a rookie teammate. Now transcripts of a voicemail Incognito, 30, left for offensive lineman Jonathan Martin show just how extreme that situation had become.

In the recording, from April 2013, Incognito allegedly declared:

Jonathan Martin

Hey, wassup, you half n****r piece of shit. I saw you on Twitter, you been training 10 weeks. [I want to] shit in your fucking mouth. [I’m going to] slap your fucking mouth.”

“[I’m going to] slap your real mother across the face [laughter].”

“Fuck you, you’re still a rookie. I’ll kill you.”

But the voicemail was only one example of what Dolphins management called “conduct detrimental to the team.” Incognito also pressured Martin to hand over $15,000 for a jaunt to Las Vegas that he didn’t even attend. According to the Hollywood Gossip, Martin “feared repercussions from his fellow lineman if he did not pony up the cash.”

Incognito also sent Martin a series of text messages chockfull of anti-gay and misogynistic slurs.

True or not, gay rumors have swirled around Martin, 24 since he joined the team last year. Fed up with the behavior from Incognito and other players, he’s taken an abrupt leave of absence from the Dolphins. It’s unclear if he will return next season.
