Ricky Martin On His First Gay Sex Scene: “The Exhibitionism Kicked In”

The singer strips down for "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story."

Ricky Martin is playing his first gay character in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and he wasted no time jumping into his first man-on-man action scene for the cameras.

“I thought I was going to be more uncomfortable,” the singer revealed to Entertainment Weekly when he recalled filming his first on-screen sex scene for the limited series.

“The exhibitionism kicked in for a moment and all of a sudden I was naked in bed in front of 20 people from the crew and another actor I met that same day. I was not nervous at all. On the contrary, I was ready to do what needed to be done.”

Aside from stripping down for the camera, playing Gianni Versace’s longtime lover Antonio D’Amico also brought back memories from when Martin wasn’t out publicly in his own life and had to hide relationships from the public:

“There was a scene where Gianni is weak and almost falling on the beach and I touch him and he goes, ‘Don’t touch me! Paparazzi!’ You don’t understand. That took me back to eight years ago when I was in the closet and it just moved me,” he told EW.

Ready, set, go.

This isn’t the first time Martin has stepped in front of the camera for American Crime Story executive producer Ryan Murphy. In 2012 he a played sexy Spanish teacher on Glee, performing a Splangish version of LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It” and “La Isla Bonita” by Madonna.

In addition to his burgeoning acting career the “She Bangs” singer is busy offscreen too. Martin is currently planning his massive wedding in Puerto Rico with his fiancé Jwan Yosef: “This [wedding] is going to be Middle Eastern and Latin crazy all at once. It’s going to be one loud wedding,” he told People.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story also stars Penelope Cruz and Donatella Versace and Darren Criss as Versace’s killer, Andrew Cunanan. The season was originally supposed to be the third installment of American Crime Story, but it has been bumped up to the second season and will premiere next year on FX.

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
