Rihanna Declined Super Bowl Halftime Show in Support of Colin Kaepernick

RiRi stands with Kap.

When it was announced last month Maroon 5 will headline Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta, people were confused an artist from the hip-hop rich town that brought the world Ciara, Usher, and Outkast, wasn't selected.

Well according to Us Weekly, one entertainer who may have been a better fit for the job didn't want to work, work, work, work, work, work. A source told the outlet exclusively that Rihanna declined an offer to headline the sporting event because she "supports Colin Kaepernick."

"The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year's performer in Atlanta," the insider said. "They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance."

Former San Fran 49ers quarterback Kaepernick was the first NFL player to kneel during the national anthem in protest of police brutality and racial inequality. Since then, he has not played in the league. In 2017, Kap filed a grievance against the NFL and its owners accusing them of colluding to keep him from playing.

Rihanna is no stranger to speaking out against police brutality.

In 2016, the entertainer joined Beyoncé, Pink, Queen Latifah, Bono, and other stars for a viral video created by Mic listing reasons why black Americans have been killed in support of the We Are Here Movement following the viral murders of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile at the hands of white police officers.
