Johnny Lopez, the son of the late Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera, opened up about his sexuality this week in a YouTube video with his sister, Chiquis.
The pair and their three other siblings currently star in The Riveras, a reality show on Universo that follows the family as they pursue their dreams and honor their mother’s legacy.
Rumors began to swirl around the 16-year-old’s sexuality after his boyfriend posted a photo of them together, so he decided to make the coming out video to address the rumors.

“People began noticing that we were together,” he said. “They didn’t come out exactly the way I wanted to, but they’re out now. I am in a gay relationship right now and I am in love with this person. I’ve been dealing with this part of myself for a long time now.”
To J, you’ve changed my life and you’ve changed me as a person. I’m putting all my cards on the table here, but I’m not scared because that’s how much I love you. Thank you for sticking by my side. There’s no one I’d rather love with all my soul. @jooaquaain Te amo

Lopez says that he has experimented with girls and ultimately doesn’t know what his sexual preference is, but is certain that he’s in love with his boyfriend.
“For so long I wanted to be completely straight or completely gay because I honestly didn’t know where I am,” he says in the video. “I’m bisexual, but honestly, I know that some people don’t necessarily believe in that. But all I know is that I love this person and I don’t necessarily have a preference, I love who I love.”
