"Riverdale" Delivers Its First Steamy Gay Scene

Kevin Keller has scored himself a bad boy.

We knew going in that the CW's Riverdale would be a bit more "adult" that the Archie comics its based on. And with Greg Berlanti behind it, we knew there'd be some gay spice, too.

When the show started, gay teen Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) was secretly hooking up with closeted football star Moose (Cody Kearsley)—off camera. Last night, though, the show gave us a steamy makeout session between Kevin and new bad boy Joaquin (Rob Raco). There's nothing like sucking face against a chain-link fence, is there?

But when Joaquin realizes Kevin is the sheriff's son, he reveals he's a member of the Southside Serpents. Is this a Romeo and Juliet moment or what?

In an interview with TV Line, Raco says he loves that his character isn't hung up on his sexuality.

"Portraying Joaquin as confident with his sexuality as I am with mine [as a straight man] has been incredible. It’s inspirational to me. It’s fearless. Nothing is forced, nothing seems fake."

While Joaquin was created for Riverdale, Kevin was introduced in Veronica issue #202 in 2010, as Riverdale's first out gay teen. Since then he's gone on to headline his own mini-series, YA novel and now a digital title, Life With Kevin.
