Robbie Williams Covers Dolly Parton's "9 To 5" And Makes It Work

"She’s a working girl in a modern world."

What a way to make a living.

Robbie Williams has released a cover of "9 to 5" from his new album, Under the Radar Volume 2, his second collection of previously unreleased b-sides, demos, and rarities from his 20-year solo career.

9 to 5/20th Century Fox

The British pop star injects the Grammy-winning classic, written and originally performed by country legend Dolly Parton for the 1980 film of the same name, with a funky electro vibe that recalls an early Scissor Sisters jam.

Williams also adds a haunting refrain: "She’s a working girl in a modern world."

In a video message to fans, the 43-year-old Take That alum explained that Under the Radar includes songs that didn’t make the cut for his previous studio albums. "They should’ve done, because they’re amazing," he says, "but you can get lost in an alleyway of 'I’ve got to write a hit or everybody dies!'”
