Swedish Pop Icon Robyn Partners With Google And Spotify On A Tech Festival Just For Girls

Swedish pop star Robyn is all about empowerment, and she wants to share with the next generation: The "Do It Again" singer is partnering with Google and Spotify to host Tekla, an all-girls technology festival at Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) on April 18 .

The day-long conference will see 200 young women participate in activities and hands-on workshops aimed at sparking interest in various tech fields, including game development, 3-D printing, digital music, and interactive art.

As is the case around the world, the Swedish tech industry is dominated by men: Only a quarter of engineers are women, and less than 20% of IT professionals are female in Sweden.

Robyn, was awarded KTH's Great Prize for advancing Swedish arts and sciences, believes that young women are the future. “I wanted to do something to inspire girls who are curious about technology," she explained in a statement. "Tekla is a festival for girls which encourages them to get involved in the future of technology through what I believe will be a fun and imaginative environment."

Indeed, Robyn will contribute to that fun environment: At the end of the day, the girls will be treated to a private concert and dance party.
