Rooney Mara Going Gay Opposite Cate Blanchett In Lesbian Drama "Carol"

Rooney Mara, that beautiful ball of fun who loves bright colors and smiling, seems to have lined up her next role, replacing Mia Wasikowska to star opposite Cate Blanchett in the upcoming lesbian drama Carol, the highly anticipated adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's much beloved, and controversial, novel The Price of Salt.

The film, which will fittingly be directed by Todd Haynes and hopefully have Patricia Clarkson popping up to do that fifties bitch thing she is so amazing at, tells the tale an older woman trapped in a loveless marriage (Blanchett), who falls in love with a young New York salesgirl (Mara). The gals then get in the car and head out west. Road trip!

The film is set to start shooting in the spring, and there's a good chance these ladies will be hanging out before then at this year's Academy Awards. Blanchett for her role in Blue Jasmine, and Mara for her work in Ain't Them Bodies Saints. Or Her. Or maybe that Terrence Malick movie she did will be released before the end of the year.

That girl sure does like to work.
