Rose McGowan Quits Acting For Music, Releases Eerie Video For First Single, "RM486" (NSFW)

"I woke up one day and realized I hated acting—and that I’d always hated it."

Rose McGowan is quitting acting and taking up music electronica, the Charmed star tells Nowness.

Her first single is the cryptically titled "RM486," and the new music video is pretty out there.

"I woke up one day and realised I hated acting—and that I’d always hated it," she says. "Imagine, its predominantly men whose scripts get done, so it was mostly a male voice coming out of my mouth for 15 years."

Apparently, Rose had been releasing songs under pseudonyms for a while, but has only recently become interested in making herself a full-fledged artist.

Of course she's certainly been busy with other projects, too: She recently premiered her feature directorial debut, Dawn, at Sundance.

"RM486" is a somewhat Bjork-y track, with an avant-garde video directed by Jonas Åkerlund, best known for Lady Gaga's "Telephone" and Madonna's Grammy winning clip for "Ray of Light."

In it, Rose quotes iconic sci-fi film Blade Runner and portrays a quintet of spooky and spacey characters.

"All five characters in the video are versions of me," McGowan said in a statement. "All are pieces that make up my whole—an artist, a public figure, and most importantly, as a person. I’m pushing back at the idea of what I am supposed to be. I want to expose people to art in a real way, and I want to change the idea of what beauty is. There is true power in art and true power in we who believe in it."
