Though its been around for more than 120 years, the legendary Rose Parade in Pasadena will feature something new when it kicks off this coming New Year's Day: A gay wedding. As part of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation's "Living the Dream" float, Aubrey Loots and Danny Leclair will be legally married as the float moves down Colorado Boulevard.

Leclair and Loots have been together for more than ten years and own a successful chain of hair salons in LA.

Says Leclair:

One of the things we’re really excited about is we’re standing on the shoulders of thousands of men and women who came before us in this fight for marriage equality. We’re excited to be part of that story, to be able to do this because of them. We’re looking forward to honor that.

Considering the visibility of the Tournament of Roses parade, which garnered more than 700,000 attendees and over 56 million viewers  last year, this will probably be the most-viewed same-sex wedding in history.  Under the AIDS Healthcare Foundation's "Love is the Best Protection" banner, the men will ride atop a wedding-cake shape float decorated with white roses and orchids.

The guys are starting their own social-media campaign encouraging everyone to profess their love for a partner, place or group using the hashtag #loveexperiment.

“Today, as wedding bells ring for more and more gay and lesbian Americans like Aubrey & Danny ... AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s 2014 Tournament of Roses Parade float is proud to honor and celebrate those ‘Living the Dream,’ confident in the knowledge that love is indeed the best protection,” said Michael Weinstein, President of AIDS Healthcare Foundation, whose advocacy campaign recognizes "the role marriage can play in reducing HIV infections among gay men."
