Why Rosie O’Donnell Won’t Return to “The View”

Guess the third time won't be the charm?

Joy Behar has announced that she will be leaving The View in 2022, but one person who will not be filling her seat at the table is Rosie O’Donnell.

The former co-host had two stints on the morning talk show, first in 2006 and then for a few months in 2014. O’Donnell appeared April 7 on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM show, where she talked about having a Zoom chat with celebs like Meg Ryan, when Madonna hosted a New Year’s Eve party topless, and her time on The View.

O’Donnell explained that she has no desire to return for the show for a third time, mostly because of how moderator Whoopi Goldberg treated her when she last co-hosted the program.

“I was assuming I was coming in to be part of an ensemble,” O’Donnell told Stern. “From day one [Goldberg] was upset… She liked it how it was.”

The out comedian spoke about how she and Goldberg were friends “in the celebrity vernacular for a long time,” but the EGOT winner was mean to O’Donnell on live TV.

“Did it hurt my feelings? Tremendously. I knew I had to leave,” O’Donnell confessed. “I’m not fighting with Whoopi Goldberg. I had no desire to fight with her.”

Stern agreed that O’Donnell on The View would never work because she and Goldberg are “two alphas,” adding, “They are too similar. You hire Rosie, she’s the leader. It either had to be you or Whoopi.”
