Ruby Rose Needed Emergency Surgery After Doing Stunts for "Batwoman"

The out actress sustained a serious injury while playing The CW's first lesbian superhero.

Ruby Rose may portray a tough, angsty superhero in The CW's forthcoming Batwoman series, but the out actress herself isn't impervious from injury. In fact, she just revealed to fans that she was seriously injured and required emergency surgery after doing her own stunts on set.

In an Instagram post from last Friday, September 27, Rose shared a time-lapsed video of her surgeons at work with her 14 million-plus followers. (Fair warning: The video in question is pretty graphic.)

"To everyone asking about my new Pez dispenser scar on my neck... A couple of months ago, I was told I needed an emergency surgery or I was risking becoming paralyzed," wrote the Orange Is the New Black alum.

"I had herniated two discs doing stunts, and they were close to severing my spinal chord [sic]. I was in chronic pain and yet couldn’t feel my arms."

Luckily, Rose's procedure went well. She took a moment to thank her surgeons—and joke about why she elected to have the surgery filmed:

Thank you Dr. Bray for everything you did and for allowing me to keep working and doing what I love. I am forever in your debt. And to anyone asking why I let them video it... Did you not watch that Grey's Anatomy episode where they left a towel in a patient?? Also I wanted to see what happens when we go under.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery! Keep an eye out for Rose in action in Batwoman, premiering Sunday, October 6, at 8pm on The CW.
