RuPaul On Bachelorette Parties At Gay Clubs: "Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself"

They think "[the gay men] are there as a party clown.”

The mother of all drag queens, RuPaul, was one of the latest guests on The Dinner Party Download podcast. He was the advice-giver in the "How to Behave" segment of the show where hosts Rico Gagliano and Brendan Francis Newnam take questions from listeners and let the celebrity dish out some etiquette advice.

During the conversation Ru was asked how he felt about women going to gay bars for their bachelorette parties: "You better check yourself before you wreck yourself," Mama Ru answered.

"People who live in the mainstream and the status quo think that everyone else is there to serve them," he explained to the hosts. “They think: ‘Oh, you must be here to make me look good. That’s what gay guys are right? You’re an accessory for my straight life.'"

The world's most famous drag queen goes onto explain how it might seem that the women are expanding their horizons by being in the gay bar in the first place, but that's not really the case.

"If they are going as a group of girls, as a way so that they don't really have to go outside of their wheelhouse. They're tourists. It's not really saying: 'You are fierce and I'm going to respect you for who you are.' They [the gay men] are there as a party clown."

So how does Ru suggest that the bachelorette parties can express their appreciation more appropriately at gay bars? "I can tell you in one word: Cash."

And remember one of RuPaul's most important pieces of advice: Get the money upfront.

RuPaul's Drag Race Season 9 airs Fridays at 8/7c on VH1.
