RuPaul Honored With Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has told RuPaul: Shantay, you stay.
Today, March 16, the most famous drag queen of all time, RuPaul, was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, California.
The ceremony and star unveiling was held on Hollywood Boulevard, outside of the World of Wonder production offices, the company behind RuPaul's Drag Race.
Ru was introduced by legendary actress, Jane Fonda, who noted that his star should be "at least three sizes bigger than any other star on the Walk of Fame" because no one else who has a star has "launched an industry like RuPaul has."
Fonda and Ru have recently become close friends after he filmed a guest spot on her Netflix series, Grace and Frankie.
"Behind the glamour, behind the drag queen is a man of great depth, incredible intelligence and compassion," she told the crowd.
"I love this man very much. I've just gotten to know him and it's one of the great pleasures of my life."
When it was time for Ru to speak, he ordered the crowd to yell: "Everybody say love!" and then held back tears as he said that "this is absolutely the most important moment in my professional life."
He spoke about coming up to L.A. when he was growing up in San Diego, and being dropped off in Hollywood, so he could look at all of the stars and dream that one day he "could be one of the stars on Hollywood Boulevard."
The ceremony was a family affair for Ru. His three sisters were in attendance, as well as his husband Georges LeBar, and his tenth grade teacher, Bill Pennell, who told the future drag queen "not to take life too f-ing seriously."
There were also members of the Drag Race family there like Ross Mathews, Candis Cayne, Todrick Hall, and World of Wonder co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey.
"I wish for each and every person within the sound of my voice, that your dreams come true as mine have," Ru told the audience as they cheered.
