RuPaul Helps Marge Release Her Inner Glamazon in Fierce “Simpsons” Drag Number
The Simpsons got a drag makeover on last night's episode when RuPaul sashayed into Springfield and helped Marge release her inner queen.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, The Simpsons showrunner, Al Jean revealed that in the drag-centric episode, Marge poses as a drag queen in order to sell more Tupperware—or Tubberware as it's known in Springfield:
“This is true – most successful Tupperware sellers are drag queens,” explained Jean. “So Marge starts selling Tupperware, and her friend Julio convinces her to pose as a drag queen to make more money. They think she’s a guy playing a woman, which Marge kind of looks like a little. She’s really successful and then RuPaul is playing a character like himself.”
Not only did the episode feature RuPaul as Marge's drag mother, and Drag Race Season 3 winner, Raja, it also had Ru and the other Springfield queens put on a fierce drag show to a new version of the Ru classic, "Glamazon"—this time with lyrics like: "Come out of your mom shell, and become a bombshell," urging Marge to be the queen she truly is.
The musical number even had the housewife step out onto the runway and reveal a giant set of wings, like Courtney Act did back in Season 6 of Drag Race.
Who knew Springfield had such an underground drag scene?
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 4 premieres Friday, December 14, at 8/7c on VH1.
