'RuPaul's Drag Race' Ads Nominated For GLAAD Award

On October 2nd, GLAAD will host its 2012 Amplifier Awards, which celebrate the year’s best LGBT-inclusive advertising, marketing, and public relations campaigns. And what a big year! Among the nominees is Logo’s very own RuPaul’s Drag Race for its ads with both Absolut Vodka and Gilead Sciences.

For the spots “Outrageous Through the Ages” with Absolut (see above) and “Red Ribbon Runway” with Gilead Sciences, RuPaul’s Drag Race is twice(!) in the running for the advocacy group’s “The Hot Spot” award for excellence in an advertisement specifically in an LGBT market (GLAAD also recognizes mainstream ads with LGBT content).

Also gunning for the honor (though it is an honor just to be nominated) are Lexus, General Motors, Orbitz, and Amtrak.

“This year's nominated campaigns are not only smart business decisions, but set the bar high for future images of our community in advertising and marketing,” said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick.

The awards ceremony will be held in the vaunted halls of New York City’s XL Nightclub on October 2 at 7:30pm as an official part of Advertising Week.

The ceremony won’t be televised, but you can snag a ticket and see a full list of nominees on GLAAD's website.
