The “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Queens Invade The New Season Of “America’s Next Top Model”

"Can I get a shot of my girls looking at least half as good as Valentina?”

The Drag Race girls have gone from the workroom to the runway.

For the upcoming 24th cycle of America’s Next Top Model, not only has Tyra Banks returned to host, but she’s brought along some fabulous queens to deal with her models-in-the-making.

In a challenge from the new season contestants are paired with Drag Race contestants Katya, Valentina and Manila Luzon for a glamorous photoshoot competing for who can serve the fiercest looks.

“They’re so friggin’ gorgeous and can pose their asses off,” Banks told Entertainment Weekly when asked about working with the Drag Race girls. “That’s a difficult model to be in a shot with.… Not all of my models prevailed. Valentina killed it. I’m sitting there editing film and I’m like, can I get a shot of my girls looking at least half as good as Valentina?”

During the interview with EW, Banks goes onto explain how she thought of bringing drag queens on for one of the challenges:

“Something popped into my head: princesses and queens! I told my team, ’Okay, give me a photoshoot with that theme, but with our girls and the drag queens!’ They took it from there and did a really good job,” she explained.

In addition to Drag Race alum, Banks also brought back members of the ANTM family for the new season. Previous judges Nigel Barker, Drew Elliott, Ashley Graham, and cycle three winner Eva Marcille are returning to the competition series.

With Drag Race on VH1 now it makes sense to have the queens shanté onto the network’s other franchises. Maybe someone from ANTM will pop up on a future episode of Drag Race? Only time will tell. For now, get ready to sashay down the runway when America’s Next Top Model returns January 9 on VH1.

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
