#TBT: The Ghoulish and Gag-worthy Friendship Between RuPaul and Elvira

How's your head?

Elvira is one of the most legendary drag queens of all time, and she returns to judges’ panel on this week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Fittingly enough, Elvira (whose real name is Cassandra Peterson) has been called out of her coffin to help critique the queens’ looks for this week’s runway challenge: Monster Ball, where the ghouls, err, girls, have to come up with three horrific looks.

This is the third time the Mistress of the Dark has been a special guest judge on Drag Race. The first being on Season 4, and then again on All Stars Season 1.

“I learn everything I know from drag queens,” Elvira told Logo back in 2012. “And now drag queens are learning things from me! Being part of this show is a dream come true!”

Ru and Elvira have known each other for years. Apart from her appearances on Drag Race, she was also a guest on Ru and Michelle Visage’s podcast, What’s the Tee, and has been a panelist at DragCon. She was also a passenger on the World of Wonder digital series, RuPaul Drives…, where the two queens talked about their stage personas, drag, and how the 1988 camp classic, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark is one of Ru’s top five favorite films of all time.

Elvira is a drag queen, but what’s one major difference between her and the contestants on Drag Race?

“I don’t have to tuck. That’s the only difference between me and drag queens,” Elvira joked on RuPaul Drives. Check out their car kiki in the video below and tune in to see Elvira’s haunted hills on this week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

RuPaul’s Drag Race airs Thursdays at 9/8c on VH1.

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
