RuPaul Announces Dutch “Drag Race” Spinoff

Category is...stroopwafel realness!

Clig, clog…are those wooden shoes we hear coming down the runway?

World of Wonder (WOW), broadcaster RTL, and Vincent TV have announced Drag Race Holland, a new international version of RuPaul’s Drag Race coming to the Netherlands later this year.

“I am proud to announce that my beloved Drag Race is coming to you,” Ru said in a video announcement. “And with a brand-new host. More info coming soon, so you better watch!”

The series will feature 10 Dutch masters of drag as they compete to be crowned the first Dutch Drag Race Superstar. Similar to Canada’s Drag Race and Drag Race Thailand, RuPaul will not host.

“We firmly believe in charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent and can’t wait to welcome these 10 talented queens into the Drag Race family. It’s fantastic to work with RTL and Vincent TV on launching a Dutch version of the franchise, but it’s also a privilege to be able to bring this brilliant new series to an international audience too, via our own SVOD Platform WOW Presents Plus. We know fans won’t be disappointed,” said WOW co-founders and Drag Race executive producers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato.

Like some Dutch windmills, we know these fierce queens are about to blow our wigs off, so we can’t wait to find out which girls will be serving serious stroopwafel fantasy on the newest version of Drag Race.

Diva Mayday, one of Amsterdam’s most popular queens, wished condragulations to her old friend Ru:

“This outstanding, urgent and groundbreaking Emmy Award-winning program fits seamlessly into the values and ambition of Videoland. We are very proud we have achieved to commission a Dutch version of Drag Race as we know there are a lot of Drag Race-fans in Holland,” said Ellen van den Berghe, head of programming of RTL’s Videoland. “But mostly we are proud we can show our subscribers the art and diversity of the program and the Dutch queens. Together with the producer Vincent TV and the support of World of Wonder we can’t wait to make a success of Drag Race Holland.”

Drag Race Holland will debut later this year exclusively on RTL’s Videoland for Dutch audiences and on WOW Presents Plus for viewers in the U.S. and other countries.

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
