It was 20 years ago that figure skating got trashy when Olympic skater Tonya Hardin’s ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, hired someone to whack rival skater Nancy Kerrigan in the kneecap in hopes of knocking her out of the Lillehammer Winter Olympics.
To commemorate this infamous incident, Logo is premiering Ice Queens, a comic re-telling of the Kerrigan-Harding scandal, tonight at 9pm.
Ice Queens stars RuPaul’s Drag Race favorites Willam Belli as Tonya Harding and Morgan McMichaels as Nancy Kerrigan, with Delta Work as an FBI agent, Yara Sofia as Oksana Baiul, Vivienne Pinay as a newsreporter, Colby Melvin as Jeff Gillooly and Christopher Adames as Shane Stant.
Basically, there’s no escaping it.
“To mark the 20th anniversary of the controversy, and with the Winter Olympics in full swing, we wanted to offer a fresh take on one of the games’ most memorable moments, while getting fans excited for a new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race,” says Logo VPV Pamela Post. “For better or worse, Ice Queens now becomes a footnote in TV history as the first film to premiere across all platforms at the same time.”
Check out an Ice Queens teaser trailer below, and check back at 9pm for the full first episode.
The release of Ice Queens marks Logo’s latest content experiment: In June the network premiered The Vines of Sauvignon Blanc, the first soap opera created exclusively for Vine.
