Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
And just like that, another chapter of Drag Race herstory has come to a close with the crowning of the RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 12 winner.
After a fierce season filled with broccoli allies, a miraculous Madonna Rusical, and extra special celebrity guest judges, the top three queens—Crystal Methyd, Gigi Goode, and Jaida Essence Hall—finally made it to the final stage of the competition. Well, not a literal stage.
Thanks to the current coronavirus pandemic, like last week’s social distancing slumber party reunion, this year’s grand finale was also a unique virtual event. Everyone on the Drag Race team was working from home—and that included Ru and the queens. After catching up with the girls, Ru sat down with each of the top three, asked about their drag journey, and showed them special video messages from their loving family members.
In a touching segment, current and past contestants paid tribute to longtime Drag Race producer, Jacqueline Wilson, who passed away last year.
When it came to the lip syncs, the first showdown had Crystal, Gigi, and Jaida all going up against each other in a face-focused performance of Ru’s new single, “Bring Back My Girls.” For the next round, each queen picked a song and performed it in their home, and they were all so fierce, Ru ended up sending them all to the final lip sync for the crown.
Season 11 Miss Congeniality Nina West made a cameo—ALONG WITH DOLLY PARTON—and crowned Heidi N. Closet this year’s congenial queen.
Crystal, Gigi, and Jaida lip-synced against each other one last time, and when it was all over, Ru got down to crowning the Season 12 winner: Jaida Essence Hall!
