“RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 9 Crowns Its Winner!

Spoilers ahead.

For the first time in Drag Race history, the final four queens had to battle it out in a lip sync smackdown for the crown.

Tonight's finale opened with the Season 9 contestants sashaying across the stage, with RuPaul following as she strutted to her club track “Call Me Mother.”

After she made the audience repeat “love” multiple times, Ru declared “Now take that to your special prosecutor and investigate it”—the first of several digs at Donald Trump during the evening.

Then the Drag Race host sat down for emotional one-on-one conversations with each of the top four queens—Peppermint, Sasha Velour, Shea Coulee and Trinity Taylor. There were surprises including Peppermint receiving a special video message from Laverne Cox and a shoutout to Sasha Velour from Katy Perry.

“Drag queens have always been the keepers of our queer history—we make it, we tell it, we remember it, and we mis-remember it,” Sasha said during her tete-a-tete.

Then came the lip sync: After the wheel landed on Trinity, she chose to go up against Peppermint, who had a gag-worthy wig reveal during their showdown to Britney Spears' “Stronger.”

RuPaul asked Peppermint to stay, while Sasha and Shea battled it out in a performance that brought the audience to their feet.

Last year’s winner, Bob the Drag Queen, came out to (reluctantly) hand over the crown—but not before plugging her upcoming Logo comedy special, Suspiciously Large Woman.

In the end, there can be only one, and so Peppermint and Shasha faced for the final lip sync. When it was done, Bob returned to the stage and Ru got down to crowning the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 9: Sasha Velour!
