Sashay Away, 2020: “RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K.” Renewed for Season 3

Seasons 2 *and* 3?! 2021 is already shaping up to be much betta.

Looks like we won’t have to break up and say bye-bye to RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K.

The squirrel friends at World of Wonder, the production company behind the Drag Race franchise, have announced that Season 2 of Drag Race U.K. will premiere on BBC Three and WOW Presents Plus in “early 2021!” Not only that, but the series has already been renewed for a third season, and casting is currently underway.

“Sashay away 2020. 2021 is just around the corner, and with it not one but two seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K.,” said executive producers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato. “We are thrilled to be doing our part to make 2021 much betta!”

RuPaul also released a statement:

Looking forward to better days! I’m happy to announce the triumphant return of RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K. Early in 2021, Season 2 will arrive with all the hope, joy, laughter and glitter you’ve come to expect from our brilliant queens. We’re also currently casting Season 3 with the best and the brightest Great Britain has to offer. We feel honored that you’ve embraced our little show, and our only wish is that we can offer a smile at a time when we can all use it the most.

As NewNowNext previously reported, like pretty much every other television and movie production, filming for Drag Race U.K. Season 2 was postponed earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“In light of the spread of COVID-19, after much consideration, production on RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K. will be temporarily pausing filming both in consultation with and supported by the BBC,” a BBC spokesperson told Daily Mail back in March. “We will continue to review all productions on a case by case basis and will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the Foreign Office, World Health Organisation, and Public Health England.”

Filming was already underway at Pinewood Studios, but a source told The Sun that continuing production was “deemed far too risky” with contestants, talent, and production teams all on set.

Judge Alan Carr appeared on Lorraine last month where he was asked about the latest update on Drag Race. There, he revealed filming would resume in early November: “I’m filming that in a fortnight’s time, so that will be nice to just get that finished.”

Hope your wig is glued on tight because there’s a lot of Drag Race coming your way next year!

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
