Russell Brand Tells "Poofs" At Cambridge University To Shut Up

Russell Brand is pretty mouthy, but the comedian-actor ticked off some students at Cambridge University when he used some anti-gay British slang.

Speaking at the esteemed college, Brand mused on topics ranging from Julian Assange and the search for truth to Topshop and Harry Style. At one point, he jokingly reprimanded the audience by shouting, "Shut up, you Harry Potter poofs!"

According to the Cambridge Varsity, some of the students present found it humorous, but others were offended. "It was a bit of a shock to hear that the word 'poof' is considered an appropriate term to level as an insult," said LGBT student Charlie Bell. "Especially by someone like Brand, who models himself as the very model of a modern liberal... He should apologize unreservedly and immediately."

Brand has shown his support for the LGBT community in the past—tweeting a photo of a gay kiss between two audience members on his FX show, Brand X, and bringing some crazies from the Westboro Baptist Church in to tear them a new one. (And there was the time he pleasured a guy in a bar bathroom.)

So, what do you think—should Brand apologize for using "poof"?
