Russian Newscaster Comes Out Live On Air, Is Fired

antonOne Russian entertainment personality is mad as hell and not gonna take it any more: Television anchor Anton Kraskovsky was recently fired from his job after coming out on the air.

"I'm gay, and I'm just the same person as you, my dear audience, as President Putin, as Prime Minister Medvedev and the deputies of our Duma," said Kraskovksy, anchor of Angry Guyzzz.

Well, that's what we think he said: According a recent interview, KontrTV, the government-run network Kraskovsky worked for deleted the segment from its website and YouTube channel.

"They immediately blocked all my corporative accounts, my email. Literally immediately, overnight," Kraskovsky, 37, said. "They deleted not only my face from the website, but also all of my TV shows, as if I’d never really existed."

It was indeed the recent gay-propaganda legislation that forced Kraskovsky's hand. He told viewers: "The meaning of this whole story we are discussing now is that throughout my whole life, I've been struggling with myself... And this — as you call it — coming out is just another battle with myself, with my own hypocrisy, my own lies, and my own cowardice." While the audience and crew of the show broke into applause, Kraskovsky was summarily fired several hours later.

He told the Daily Mail:

'I have made a lot of money in television and I understood that I’d lose everything,' he recalls over coffee, months later. He is currently unemployed. 'But I also understood that I couldn’t do anything else. I didn’t do it so that I would get hundreds of likes on my Facebook page. I did it because I wanted them to hear it in the Kremlin. And they heard it, and were surprised.'

C'mon CNN, MSNBC—find a slot for this courageous (and cute) newsman.
