Head Of Russian Orthodox Church Compares Marriage Equality To Apartheid, Nazis

"This new trend poses a significant threat for the existence of the human race.”

The Patriarch of Moscow has declared that same-sex marriage is as bad for humanity as Hitler's Nazi laws once were.

Vladimir Mikhailovich Gundyayev, who holds the most senior position in Russia's Orthodox church and is an ally of Vladimir Putin, gave an interview with Russia Today in which he linked marriage equality to terrible historical moments around the globe.

“We could compare this to the apartheid in Africa or Nazi laws,” he said. “When the law went against inherent moral values, the people rebelled. They knew it was artificial and against their nature."

“For the first time in human history, legislation is at odds with the nature of human beings – with what’s good and evil," he added.

The religious leader also dramatically warned that marriage equality could put an end to the human race altogether.

“Under no circumstances should this be accepted as a social norm no different from the social norm that stems from our moral nature, meaning marriage between a man and wife who create a family and have children," he said. "That’s why we believe this new trend poses a significant threat for the existence of the human race."
