Russian TV Channel Offers Gay People One-Way Airline Tickets Out Of The Country

Emigrants must prove "they are sodomites or have other forms of perversion."

If you're a gay person living in Russia, one local television channel wants you to start packing.

In a new video posted on its social media pages, Tsargrad TV, a niche satellite channel promoting Christian Orthodox values, calls on Russian homosexuals to compete for one-way plane tickets to America, BBC reports. The channel insists this is not a joke.

"Just recently, California—the most liberal state in the USA, by the way—proposed to facilitate the granting of green cards to Russian perverts," says host Andrei Afanasyev. "The staff of Tsargrad TV support this initiative. Moreover, we are ready to pay for a one-way ticket to anyone who plans to emigrate in complete earnest, and can provide a medical certificate proving that they are sodomites or have other forms of perversion."

"We really want you to move there, where you can openly submit to your sins," Afanasyev continues.

Tsargrad, which regularly criticizes American morals, claims to reach about a quarter of the Russian population. Channel founder Konstantin Malofeev, a prominent businessman and vocal supporter of Vladimir Putin, has said he views it as the Russian equivalent of Fox News.

While many commenters have expressed outrage at the video, calling the channel's staff "savages," others are supportive. "Let gays go to their USA," one viewer writes.

The video comes only a few months after initial reports of a homosexual purge in Chechnya, where gay men are said to be beaten, jailed, and murdered.
