Ruth Bader Ginsburg Officiates Vows Of U.S. Ambassador To Vietnam And His Husband

The private ceremony took place at the Ambassador's official residence in Hanoi.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the officiant at the vow renewal ceremony of U.S. Ambassador Ted Osius and his husband Clayton Bond during her recent trip to Vietnam.

The couple had been legally married in Canada back in 2006, and now have two adopted children together.

“We thought it might be meaningful not only to us, but to the LGBT community in Vietnam," Osius said about having Ginsburg officiate.

He also reported that Ginsburg told him and Bond that “officiating over the renewal of our vows was ‘a joy.’”

“She is one of the most extraordinary people we have ever met,” said Osius, who is one of six openly gay U.S. ambassadors.
