Jamaican Drag Queens Arrested For Robbery Spree, Sam Champion Moving To The Weather Channel: Today In Gay

Eight men in all were rounded by police, who found them asleep on makeshift beds in the gully underneath Trafalgar Road.

A high-heeled boot lay at the edge of the gully, inches from a make-up kit and a piece of silver costume jewellery. Inside, curtains served as a temporary wall on one side. As eyes adjusted to the dark, men clad in women's clothing, blonde wigs, eyelids heavy with false lashes, acrylic fingernails and 'bleached' faces could be seen sprawled, fast asleep.

At the end of the one-hour operation, which started at midday, eight homosexuals believed to be involved in a series of robberies in the New Kingston area were taken into custody and transported to the Half-Way-Tree Police Station. A number of stolen items were recovered, the police said in a release hours after the raid.

Five other men, known by the aliases of  Marlene Malaboo-Forte, Michelle, Goodas, Pebbles and Bat Man, were listed as persons of interest in the crime spree.

In Haiti, the offices of the LGBT rights group Kouraj were raided last week. Amnesty International reports intruders wielding machetes and handguns burst in, tying up and beating at least two activists and stealing laptops and other office supplies.

The attackers, who also stole files with confidential information about Kouraj members, warned their captives not to reopen the office.

The right-wing group In the Name of the Family put the referendum on the ballot, asking voters "Do you agree that marriage is matrimony between a man and a woman?"

Croatia is heavily Catholic, and religious leaders had admonished their followers to vote for the ban. "Marriage is the only union enabling procreation," said Croatia's Cardinal Josip Bozanic. "This is the key difference between a marriage... and other unions."

LGBT activists and allies have called upon the European Union to address the situation, since the EU's charter forbids discrimination based on sexual orientation.

While Argentina does recognize same-sex marriage Alexis Taborda, 26, was able to marry his partner, Karen Bruselario, as a man because a new law recognizes the rights of trans citizens without proof of gender-reassignment surgery.

“It was a very emotional day, unique, really special, because a dream came true for us. We had a civil marriage,” said Taborda, who is expected to give birth around Christmastime.
