Sam Smith has posted new photos of himself wearing drag to Instagram, serving a sparkly “Nothing Really Matters” Madonna moment with a floral statement headdress.
“Happy New Year Darlings,” he captioned one photo. “Thank you all for the most beautiful year of my life. Drink loads, pour flowers from your chest and celebrate your fabulous self.”
The 25-year-old singer-songwriter opened up about his genderfluidity earlier this year in an interview with The Sunday Times, saying, “I don’t know what the title would be, but I feel just as much woman as I am man.”
Smith also discussed his passion for doing drag, revealing that visits the Australian drag shop House of Priscilla whenever he’s in Sydney. “Oh, my god, I just buy everything—heels, dresses,” he said. “We have a great time.”
“People don’t know this, but when I was 17, I remember becoming obsessed with Boy George and Marilyn,” the Grammy winner continued. “There was one moment in my life when I didn’t own a piece of male clothing, really.”
“I would wear full makeup every day at school—eyelashes, leggings with Dr Martens and huge fur coats, for two and a half years. I got teased a lot for it. But there were also people respecting me for walking around like that in my school.”
Last week Smith posted a photo of himself rocking festive red heels for Christmas.
13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Flynn, 24, shared his first selfie with Smith last week on Instagram. The boyfriends were later spotted holding hands in South Florida while visiting Flynn’s family for the holidays.
Smith’s sophomore album, The Thrill of It All, dropped last month. His North American arena tour kicks off June 18, 2018.
