Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" Crush Was A Straight Guy

Sam Smith recently revealed that his hit debut album, In the Lonely Hour, was inspired by a crush he had on a straight guy.

"It's really tough to explain. But no, he's not gay," Smith told The Sun. "'Nothing ever happened between us. I know he loved me too, but not in that way. When I wrote the record I was just really heartbroken — all I wanted to do was go to the studio and write about this guy who I fell in love with."

Smith says that he told his crush about the record before it was released and though they didn't fall in love and run away together, the story has a multitude of happy endings.

"I told him before it came out. And it gave me a lot of closure actually. It put a book end at the end of the record. It was amazing, I'm so happy I did it. What I wrote the songs about doesn't affect me anymore."

So he's got closure, he's got the best super sad love song of the year, a record-breaking album, he's BFFs with Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry — what else could he need?

Why, what all gay men need: Beyoncé. At the VMAs, Queen Bey summoned Smith to her dressing room — I'm assuming two Illuminati guards appeared from the shadows to retrieve him — to tell him how great he is.

"Beyonce asked to meet me, so I went in and said 'Hi'. It was amazing, she took my breath away," Smith recalled. "She said my voice is like butter, so I am done for life now. I don't need to do anything else."

Gurl. Beyoncé served him a Linda Richman effect?
