Watch This Same-Sex Salsa Team Burn The Floor With A Groundbreaking Performance

Team Same Gender is breaking barriers in the world of Latin dance.

History was made at the Ottawa Salsa Convention this month, when an all-male salsa group performed for the first time. Team Same Gender came from Mexico to showcase its skills on the dance floor and was met with a standing ovation from the crowd—something the team doesn’t often receive in their home country.

Team director Dioney Da Silva says Mexicans’ hesitation to embrace same-sex dance partners inspired him to create Team Same Gender, to celebrate their passion for dancing while breaking down stigma and stereotypes.

“I want to show people that this social circle is for all the community,” he told Ottowa News
