Sarah Paulson is finally opening up about her relationship with fellow actress Holland Taylor.

The American Horror Story star tells The New York Times she's always been drawn to older partners—and more recently, older women.

"My choices in romantic partners have not been conventional," she says. "Therefore the idea that it is ‘other’ makes it compelling."

"There’s a poignancy to being with someone older. I think there’s a greater appreciation of time and what you have together and what’s important, and it can make the little things seem very small. It puts a kind of sharp light mixed with a sort of diffused light on something."

Paulson reveals that she and Taylor first met at a dinner party nearly a decade ago, but at the time Paulson was dating actress Cherry Jones and Taylor was also involved.

Regardless, she remembers thinking Taylor, who is 32 years her senior, was "the most exquisitely beautiful woman I'd ever seen."

They reconnected a few years later at a charity event, and started swapping direct messages on Twitter. A tweet here and there quickly led to a dinner date a little more than a year go. They have been together ever since.

Just don't ask Paulson to label herself.

“If my life choices had to be predicated based on what was expected of me from a community on either side, that’s going to make me feel really straitjacketed, and I don’t want to feel that," she said.

"What I can say absolutely is that I am in love, and that person happens to be Holland Taylor.”
