Sasha Velour Is The Artist Behind Today's Google Doodle

"As a drag queen, that's particularly inspiring to me."

We all knew Sasha Velour loves Marlene Dietrich, and now she has paid tribute to the Hollywood goddess with an illustration that will be seen by anyone who goes to Google's website today.

On December 27, 1901, Maria Magdalene Dietrich was born into this world, and to celebrate the actress' 116th birthday, Google had Sasha draw The Blue Angel in honor of the trailblazing screen legend.

“She was a wild original!” Sasha told Google. “Despite the pressures of the time, she followed her own course, especially in terms of politics and gender.

"As a drag queen, that's particularly inspiring to me. Plus, she just had this power to her...in every role she's mysterious and strong, brilliant. That's what I aspire to be when I step on the stage.”

If you watched Season 9 of Drag Race you should remember Sasha's perfect impersonation of Dietrich during the Snatch Game challenge. RuPaul—and viewers—were skeptical that Sasha could make the Hollywood icon funny, but she turned it out with a hilarious performance praised by Ru.
