Watch the Trailer for "Sauvage," the Gay Hustler Film That Shocked Cannes

Audience members walked out of a screening after an explicit scene involving a butt plug.

Sauvage, Camille Vidal-Naquet's provocative film about the life of a 22-year-old gay hustler, made headlines when it premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival, and now those not lucky enough to see it in the south of France, can at least now watch the recently released trailer for the film.

Sauvage received accolades from critic's for Félix Maritaud's (who played Max in 2017’s BPM). portrayal of Leo, the prostitute who lives a hard life on the streets—but it also had buzz at the festival for its graphic sex scenes, including one that was too much, and resulted in audience members walking out during a screening.

Vulture's Kyle Buchanan wrote how at one point in the movie Leo goes home with two men, who treat him like an "unthinking animal."

"One of the men orders Léo to get on all fours, then begins to lube up a gigantic, intimidating butt plug which he will wield almost like a weapon," wrote Buchanan. "A few of the women behind me fled the theater at that point, but Vidal-Naquet said such a scene was necessary."

“It wouldn’t be honest to make a movie about prostitution without talking about these kinds of things,” said the director. “There are clients who can absolutely dehumanize you and treat you like a total object on the pretext that they’ve paid you and they own you. I found that so violent.”

Strand Releasing acquired the film, and will release it stateside in late 2018. Until then, watch the trailer below.
