Scarlet Fever Hits New York With "Red Hot" Photo Exhibit

Like us, British photographer Thomas Knights has a soft spot for redheads. He's currently preaching the ginger gospel with "Red Hot," an eyecatching photo exhibition that opened last week at New York's BOSI Contemporary art gallery.

The show, which first ran in London last year, features 64 shockheaded shirtless models that all make us want to get caught red-handed (including Olympic gold medalist Greg Rutherford).

"Guys with red hair don't have the positive role models that girls do in our culture," says Knights. "A male with red hair is not seen as aspirational, culturally speaking, with very few leading men, heroes, action stars or heartthrobs played by men with red hair in Hollywood or on our TV screens."

He says redheads are often subject to teasing and bullying. "For some of those on the receiving end, the impact to their self esteem is felt much more deeply and can have lasting, detrimental effects at school and way into their adult life."

To help combat that stigma, a portion of proceeds from sales of prints and a Red Hot 100 coffee table book benefit anti-bullying charities.

"Red Hot" runs at Manhattan's BOSI Contemporary through September 14.
