Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears Joins The Cast Of “Kinky Boots”

Sex is in the heels.

It might be a bit longer before we get a Scissor Sisters reunion: Jake Shears has just been announced as joining the cast of the Tony-winning musical Kinky Boots on Broadway.

Shears, along with Pentatonix singer Kirstin Maldonado, will join the show from January 8 to April 1, 2018. He’ll play Charlie Price, while Maldonado will play Lauren, his love interest. The duo succeed Tony nominee Stark Sands, who returned to the role of Charlie this year, and Delaney Westfall. (J. Harrison Ghee will rejoin the company, as well, taking over as Lola for Tony winner Billy Porter.)

“I have been dreaming of doing Broadway, and my wish got answered tenfold,” Shears said. “I couldn’t be more excited about doing Kinky Boots on Broadway; it’s going to be a delicious challenge! Believe it or not, they’re going to be the first stilettos I’ll ever have worn. My feet are so big, I’ve never seen a pair that would actually fit me.”

Since winning six Tony Awards in 2013, Kinky Boots has welcomed a number of celebrities into its cast, including Wayne Brady, Todrick Hall and Panic! at the Disco’s Brendan Urie.

With a score by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Harvey Fierstein and direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell, Kinky Boots tells the uplifting tale of Charlie Price, a young man reluctantly taking over his family’s struggling shoe factory. He finds inspiration in Lola, a brassy drag queen, and together, they discover that it takes a good friend to make a great pair.

Below, Todrick Hall reveals how RuPaul and Harvey Fierstein helped him prepare to play Lola.
