Scott Lively Is Really Pissed At John Oliver — For Telling The Truth?
In the desert of summer television is the oasis that is HBO's Last Week Tonight. John Oliver's weekly new recap series has been regularly hitting it out of the park and last Sunday's episode continued the winning streak. Oliver went in on evangelical homophobe and frontrunner for worst person alive, Scott Lively, and his role in sparking Uganda's odious anti-homosexuality law.
Lively, aghast that anyone would have the audacity — the gaul, the cheek! — to call him out on his own bullshit, took to his website to give John Oliver a piece of his crazy mind:
I’m calling out John Oliver as a liar and a fraud who couldn’t go ten minutes with me in an unscripted, unedited debate. Without his teleprompter and his cheap-shot, out-of-context video clips he would be exposed as just another left-wing loony.
Oliver is lying through selective editing re Rwanda and several other points. His show was one continuous stream of malicious LGBT propaganda in the guise of comedy.
Never mind that there's copious evidence to Lively's despicable hate-mongering in the guise of missionary work, but he just side-stepped into a world of trouble. The ball's in Oliver's court, now, and since Lively practically issued an open invitation to get his ass handed to him, we'll simply have to wait for that unscripted and unedited debate.
