A&E’s new version of Roots has been generating a lot of positive reviews: Part 1 debuts tonight at 9pm airing on A&E, History, Lifetime and LMN. Parts 2 through 4 air Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9pm on all four channels.
Starz debuts its first original movie, The Dresser at 9pm. In this adaptation of Ronald Harwood’s West End play, Ian McKellen plays the personal assistant to an elderly Shakespearean actor (Anthony Hopkins) during WWII.
Fox puts a new spin on its long-running summer competition with So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation at 8pm, when the show will focus on kids ages 8 to 13 paired with SYTYCD all-stars.
Get ready for warm-weather season with an all-new edition of Secret Guide To Fabulous at 10pm, with John Gidding, Rob Younkers, Theodore Leaf and Ronnie Woo giving tips to make this the best summer ever.
Scream returns to MTV at 11pm: Having spent the past few months recovering from last season’s horrors, Emma finally returns to Lakewood, which means another killer should start terrorizing the town at any moment.
Following the Scream premiere is Scream: After Dark at midnight, when out personality Jeffrey Self recaps the show’s various twists and turns.
At 8pm, America’s Got Talent kicks off its 11th season with Simon Cowell replacing Howard Stern at the judges’ table.
Then, at 10pm, NBC tries to revive the variety show AGAIN with Maya & Marty, teaming up SNL’s Maya Rudolph and Martin Short for a mix of comedy and music. The premiere promises appearances by Larry David, Tom Hanks and Miley Cryus.
At 8pm, Freeform airs the Young & Hungry fourth season premiere: It’s honeymoons all around as Gabi decides to pretend to be the wife of a man (Tyler Ritter) who was left at the altar. Meanwhile, Eliot and Alan are finally having their honeymoon—but with Yolanda tagging along, they’re mistaken for a throuple.
Let’s hope TLC takes a respectful tone with its two new specials tonight: Transgender Kids premieres at 8pm, followed by Transgender Kids Camp at 9pm.
The second season of Schitt’s Creek wraps on Pop at 8pm, with Mutt throwing his big yearly party. That probably means Alexis will pretend that its not awkward to socialize with her ex while David eggs her on.
At 8pm, NBC brings out the muscle when American Ninja Warrior returns with new obstacles and new perfectly chiseled competitors.
At 9pm, Kingdom returns to the Audience Network. Fans were disappointed at how slowly the storyline involving Nick Jonas’ closeted MMA, Nate, unfolded last year. Fingers crossed the second half of the season, debuting tonight, gets to it faster.
At 10pm, Australian sci-fi comes to Sundance with the debut of Cleverman, set in a world where humanity lives with the Hairypeople, a species segregated into ghettos. But when one of the Hairys (Hunter Page-Lochard) discovers he has strange powers, it could change society forever.
Also at 10pm, NBC’s The Night Shift returns, as we find gay army medic Drew (Brendan Fehr) serving overseas in Afghanistan with guest star Jennifer Beals. Meanwhile, a new recruit may be too outspoken to fit in.
At 10pm, Donnie is in prison while Victoria is hallucinating swans on an all-new Orphan Black.
Netflix debuts its newest comedy special, Bo Burnham: Make Happy. Burnham’s 2006 YouTube clip, “My Whole Family Thinks I’m Gay,” has been viewed more than eight million times.
IFC gets surreal when Comedy Bang! Bang! returns at 11pm with Kevin Bacon and Weird Al Yankovic in tow.
At 9pm, Randy Fenoli is back with another season of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress
At 9pm, FYI thinks small on a new 90-minute episode of Tiny House Nation, with adorable hosts John Weisbarth and Zack Giffin.
Relive the drama with new commentary from Ru herself, as RuPaul’s Drag Race: Season 8 RuVealed, premieres at 7pm on Logo.
Then at 8pm, Cocktails & Classics returns as Michael Urie, Drew Droege, Shangela and Dolly Parton herself kiki about 9 To 5.
At 10pm, its another episode of Penny Dreadful, as Vanessa looks for help against Dracula from an old friend, who introduces her to a new ally
