Give this lady an award. Please.
On Sunday evening the winners of the SAG awards will be announced. For the movie and television nerds who watch it, it’s an interesting insight into who other actors admire. It’s a low pressure night compared to the Oscars, probably because it’s also on a remote channel and people are suffering a bit from awards ceremony fatigue. What I love about the show though are the opening introductions. A selected group of actors and actresses do a direct spiel to the camera explaining what the first job was that got them their SAG card. As anyone who has an actor friend knows, it’s a pretty big deal to get one. It means you are part of the acting union and, in a greater sense, it means they are getting more experience and exposure. The audience shares in this flashback moment where actors are obliged to remember that they too once had to go to endless auditions and had to face countless rejections. They persevered and now they all get to take home an awesome goodie bag and ogle over the likes of Clooney, Pitt and DiCaprio –- not too bad. Th greatest part for me however is that it is an awards show based on respect rather than box office or politics, as actors are voting for other actors. My picks and predictions are below –- do you think who wins the SAG will win the Oscar?
