Seattle Man In Serious Condition After Shooting At Milo Yiannopoulos Event

The shooting did not stop Yiannopoulos from delivering his speech at the University of Washington.

A Seattle man was shot Friday night outside of a University of Washington hall just moments before controversial, far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos was set to deliver a speech to members of the college community.

The 32-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital where he remains in serious condition. A man later confessed to the shooting and turned himself in to University police for questioning.

A police official told the Seattle Times that the suspected shooter said he fired in self-defense against the man, who he described as "some type of white supremacist." The suspect was released pending further investigation.

The attack occurred amid protests outside Kane Hall on the UW campus, where demonstrators had gathered to block people from attending Yiannopoulos' sold-out Inauguration Day appearance.

Though the protest started off peacefully, violence quickly erupted as protesters began to volley bricks and blue paint at police officers. As the clash reached a crescendo, shots were fired.

Yiannopoulos, who was invited to speak by the university’s student College Republicans club, left the stage to confirm the shooting. Minutes later, he returned, saying, “If we don’t continue, they have won.”

For the past few months, the former Breitbart News Editor has been visiting college campuses throughout the United States to deliver homophobic and racist speeches on the promise of Trump's America.

Fierce student opposition has followed the speaker along his tour, with protesters managing to halt his appearances at NYU and UC-Davis.

During this time, the gay conservative has both been blocked from Twitter for inciting a hate campaign against Saturday Night Live's Leslie Jones and landed a $250,000 book deal with Simon & Schuster.
