Deaf Actor's LGBT Sitcom, "Save The World," Crowned Winner Of Project Greenlight's "See Yourself" Contest

The project features a crew made up almost entirely of deaf people.

Project Greenlight Digital Studios, Section II and GLAAD revealed the winner of their See Yourself contest this week, and it was deaf actor Dickie Hearts who took home the top prize.

Hearts won $5,000 and a development deal to turn his superhero sitcom, Save the World, into an original digital series.

Save the World tells the story of a deaf barista, played by Hearts, who struggles to communicate with his crush due to the language barrier.

Things to take a turn for the supernatural, however, after the barista gains powers from a radioactive cup of coffee and becomes a crime-fighting superhero across the city.

The winning video was created by an entirely deaf crew, with the exception of a sound person and voice over artist, and the cast was made up of a blend of both hearing and deaf actors.

"I am incredibly grateful and humbled by this amazing opportunity, which is truly a win for the LGBT, Sign Language, Disability, and Diversity communities," said Hearts about his victory. "More importantly, I cannot wait to share this superhero love story that I am most passionate about."

The goal of the See Yourself contest was to promote LGBT representation in media, and the winner was chosen from 5 finalists.
