“Sex and the City” Follow-Up Series in Development at Paramount Television

Candace Bushnell will write the pilot and executive produce the show.

And I couldn't help but wonder... Is There Still Sex in the City?

That is the question Paramount Television and original Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell are asking. Deadline reports that Paramount is working on a new "sequel series" to the iconic HBO classic, Sex and the City, titled: Is There Still Sex in the City? Based on Bushnell's upcoming novel of the same name.

"It follows Bushnell’s piercing, sly, and sometimes heartbreaking look at sex, dating, and friendship in New York City after 50. Set between the Upper East Side of Manhattan and a country enclave known as The Village, the book looks at love and life from all angles—marriage and children, divorce and bereavement, as well as the very real pressures on women to maintain their youth and have it all," reads the book's synopsis.

Tell us more about this "country enclave," we always did love those Hampton-set SATC episodes.

“It’s a really humorous take on the things that I’ve noticed people are experiencing in middle age,” Bushnell told People. “[Your 50s] can really be a time of a shakeup,” she continues. “Women are married, they have kids, they still have some kind of career, and they look around and it just doesn’t work anymore. They have to make a change.”

We are just as excited as you are to jump back into Bushnell's world of love and dating in New York, but before you start mixing your cosmos note that Carrie Bradshaw or her three besties are never mentioned in the new book or series.

“The original Sex and the City book and series served as a groundbreaking touchstone for an entire generation of women, myself included,” said Nicole Clemens, President of Paramount Television. “We’re thrilled to be able to continue that conversation from the underrepresented point of view of women in their 50s and answer the question with, ‘Yes! There is more sex in the city!”

Bushnell will write the pilot script and serve as an executive producer on Is There Still Sex in the City? Right now there's no word on when the series will begin production or premiere, but until then you can pick up a copy of Bushnell's new book when it hits shelves on August 6.
