Harry Shum Jr. Praises “Shadowhunters” Romance With Matthew Daddario At GLAAD Media Awards

"I don’t think that this combination has ever existed on TV."

Freeform’s Shadowhunters has taken LGBT representation into new dimensions, with the relationship between ancient warlock Magnus Bane (Harry Shum Jr.) and his demon-stalking love interest, Alec (Matthew Daddario).

The actors were on hand to accept Shadowhunters’ Outstanding Drama Series honor at the GLAAD Media Awards, when Shum pointed out just how unique their romance is.

“I play an openly proud bisexual warlock and a person of color that’s in a relationship with a recently out gay shadowhunter who hunts demons for a living,” Shum remarked. “I don’t think that this combination has ever existed on TV.”

Daddario praised Freeform and parent company Disney for “committing themselves to portraying characters of every kind and every sexuality in order to create a better world.”

The 28th Annual GLAAD Media Awards will air on Logo on Thursday, April 6 at 10/9c.
