The ballad track, which will be on the 20-year-old Las Vegas native's forthcoming album Ratchet, sees him singing about life—"You know, it doesn't get darker unless you expect it to"—while standing on various cliffs.

His previous hits, including "On the Regular" and "Call It Off," showed off Shamir's ability to mix witty raps with soulful vocals.

The slower music of "Darker" allows him demonstrate how lovely his unique countertenor sounds on its own.

And we may be off, but we're feeling a SERIOUS homage to Britney Spears' "Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" video with the visuals on "Darker."

Yas, Shamir. Yas.

Watch the video for "Darker" below. Ratchet is out on May 18.
