Shangela Plays Lady Gaga's "Drag Mother" In "A Star Is Born" Remake
Shangela is caught up in a bad romance.
In a new interview with Billboard, the All Stars Season 3 queen revealed that she has a role in the upcoming A Star is Born remake starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
"I'm in drag, I'm kind of Lady Gaga's drag mother, a bar owner," she said. "I can't give much more away than that. But it's gonna be really fun, it's not a giant role but it's a good role that's memorable. I've heard from a lot of people on the team I'm going to be very happy."
Not only does Shangela have a role in the musical remake, she also dishes on what it was like working with Mother Monster, but don't worry, Shangela says it was "a dream come true."
"When you look up to someone, idolize them, and their journey and experience and how they work, and then you get to work with them and see they're everything you dreamed. And she was everything I had ever dreamed she would be. Professional, kind, funny."
A Star is Born is not the only time Shangela will be on the big screen this year. She can also be seen in the "shequel," Hurricane Bianca: From Russia With Hate, hitting theaters in May.
Rumors of another A Star is Born remake had been swirling in Hollywood for years with everyone from Will Smith to Beyonce attached to star. The Gaga-Cooper version will mark the fourth time the story of an unknown performer whose career rises past her husband’s has been told, the last being the 1976 version starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
"For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director.” said WB executive Greg Silverman in a statement. “We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home — Warner Bros. — and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of A Star is Born.”
The remake filmed in California last year and is scheduled to be released sometime in 2018.
Now we just need to get Shangela on an episode of Game of Thrones.
